Deaf interpreters may feel as if they are stuck in a box or a narrow lane figuring out what is and is not 'acceptable' professional and ethical behavior. We all know Deaf interpreting goes beyond role constraint, where interpreters feel their role is limited to just facilitating communication. Viewing Deaf interpreting work through the role-space framework opens up our perspective on ethical choices and allows us to handle decision making on the job in a different way. Lee & Llewellyn-Jones (2011) developed a three-dimensional model of interpreter involvement based on three axes. By breaking down the position a Deaf interpreter may take along each axis during an interpreted event, the DI can explore ethical ramifications and actual consequences of their choices, as well as strategies for decision-making in future interpreting situation.
