Deaf Interpreters Enhancing Message Clarity in Medical Settings
Medical
.15 CEUs
(PS)
This session explores Deaf interpreting strategies for effectively processing signing and information from hearing interpreters, with a focus on medical settings. Hearing interpreters often exhibit patterns in their signing that may hinder Deaf client’s comprehension. As a Deaf interpreter, it is essential to recognize and navigate these features when receiving interpreted information.
Participants will analyze samples of a hearing interpreter’s signing in a medical context, drawn from DawnSignPress's content, Interpreting in Medical Settings. The session will then focus on practical strategies Deaf interpreters can use to accurately and effectively interpret the information being conveyed.
