HOPE IN ACTION: Building Positive Experiences for All Deaf Students

This 90-minute interactive workshop introduces the HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) framework as a strengths-based approach to support DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Black Deaf, DeafPlus, Deaf, and intersectional Deaf students. Grounded in research on positive childhood experiences, the session highlights how relationships, equitable environments, meaningful participation, and emotional development contribute to resilience and well-being. Participants will explore how these principles apply within Deaf-centered educational spaces and in collaboration with ASL Deaf interpreters. Through brief presentations, real-world scenarios, and guided reflection, attendees will examine current practices and identify opportunities to strengthen inclusive and responsive learning environments. The workshop emphasizes practical, culturally responsive strategies that honor the diverse identities and lived experiences of Deaf students. By the end of the session, participants will leave with tools to intentionally foster supportive, adaptable spaces where Deaf students and interpreters can thrive together, promoting both academic success and holistic development.
