Ethics

(PS)
The sixth tenet of the NAD RID Code of Professional Conduct focuses on ethical business practices. This workshop examines how Deaf interpreters can navigate key business related ethical considerations, including accurately representing qualifications, honoring professional commitments, communicating responsibly about scheduling changes, and advocating for safe and effective working conditions. Particular attention will be given to distinguishing between staff and independent contractor roles and understanding the ethical implications of each.
Participants will engage in guided discussion and role play scenarios to analyze real world situations related to Tenet 6 and determine appropriate ethical responses. The workshop will also address fair and transparent fee practices, including rate setting and ethical approaches to pro bono work. To support practical application, participants will be invited to draft a personalized rate sheet with terms and conditions that can be used when working with agencies and consumers.
