Tie Burcham
Tie Burcham is an interpreter, educator, and facilitator whose work centers on power, privilege, and identity within interpreting practice. Drawing from lived experience and professional expertise, Tie brings a critical lens to issues of race, culture, and equity in Deaf and interpreting spaces.
Tie has developed and delivered multiple professional trainings for interpreters, including workshops on intersectionality, code-switching, cultural responsiveness, and 2SLGBTQIA+ Black Deaf identity. Their approach blends storytelling, critical reflection, and real-world application, creating spaces where participants are both challenged and equipped with practical strategies.
Known for engaging and thought-provoking sessions, Tie focuses on moving interpreters beyond neutrality toward accountability, cultural humility, and justice-oriented practice.
